COUNTERFACTUALS WITHOUT POSSIBLE WORLDS? A DIFFICULTY FOR FINE'S EXACT SEMANTICS FOR COUNTERFACTUALS.
- Authors
EMBRY, BRIAN
- Abstract
The author discusses aspects of the standard use of possible worlds semantics for counterfactuals from A to C (A > C) by American philosophers Robert Stalnaker and David Lewis. He is critical on the development of exact semantics and validity of principles such as infinitary conjunction, disjunction and transitivity. Also investigated is the atomic propositions as well as the exact verification conditions for molecular propositions.
