- Abstract
Introducing surface texturing to improve the tribological properties of the ring-liner conjunction is one of the most effective means to improve its working reliability. Based on the mass conservation lubrication model and the asperity contact model, a mixed lubrication model for the textured system was developed. By the mixed lubrication model, after selecting appropriate performance evaluation indexes of the ring-liner conjunction, the objective function for optimizing the performance of the ring-liner conjunction was determined. Combined with particle swarm optimization algorithm, a new method for optimizing the dimensions of textures with different depths on the surface of piston ring was studied. Based on a large number of numerical simulation tests, it is found that surface texturing with the optimized depth can improve the tribological performances of the ring-liner conjunction, improves the bearing capacity and reduces the friction, which verfies the proposed texture optimization design method is feasible.
