- Title
Zirconium Combats High-Temperature Corrosion.
- Abstract
The article reports on a technology developed by engineers at Ohio State University to coat jet engine turbine blades with zirconium, which is best known as the material used in synthetic diamonds. Accordingly, the technology would give manufacturers the ability use new kinds of heat-resistant materials in engine blades, for them to run hotter and more efficiently. It mentions Nitin Padture, professor of materials science and engineering at Ohio State, who began the project with military aircraft in mind.
