- Abstract
The objective of our study is to provide an empirical analysis of the relationship between CO2 emissions and income level by examining the validity of the Kuznets environmental curve (CEK) in the case of Algeria. The estimate of the CO2 emissions-income relationship is made for annual data on CO2 emissions measured in kilotons and gross domestic product per capita measured in constant 2010 dollars over a period from 1960 to 2019, in constructing a nonlinear econometric model on the basis of a relation of the Gamma type. The results of our model allow us to confirm the existence of this environmental curve in the case of Algeria. The economic growth therefore has a positive effect on the quality of the environment, beyond a certain level of income estimated by our model at around $ 6,950 constant in 2010.
