- Abstract
The Arabic-Latin translation movement that flourished in the 12th century is a transitional stage through which knowledge has passed from the East to the Latin West. During that period, a plethora of westerners travelled to the East in search of knowledge. This research aims to cast lights on the Latin translator Adelard of Bath whose love for knowledge impelled him to study works by the Arabs. Moreover, the situation of education and the sciences that prevailed in the twelfth century will be highlighted in addition to Adelard's works that were written before, during, and after travelling to the East. Adelard's translated books are used as primary resources for this research, in addition to other secondary resources. Adelard influenced his contemporaries as his translation of Euclid's Elements urged many translators to carry on the tradition. Furthermore, he contributed to building the bridge between the Islamic Civilization and the European Renaissance and hence, further studies need to be done in order to acknowledge him rightfully and adequately.
