The article focuses on the problem of uninsulated masonry buildings in Chicago, Illinois and suggests a way to insulate them from the outside which is called the Chicago deep-dish retrofit. Topics discussed include the attachment of the 2x4 wood furring directly to masonry or to concrete, the problems with parapets and existing flat roofs in large buildings and the utilization of mineral fiber insulation and metal hat channels.
