- Abstract
This article analyzes the representation of history in Después del silencio (1956) by Lucas Demare and Los torturados (1956) by Alberto Dubois. Produced after the fall of Peronism, these commercial films follow the conventions of film noir; however they present elaborate critical visions of the overthrown regime analogous to contemporaneous political discourse. In addition to reviewing these films based on the writings by Robert Rosenstone and Marc Ferro regarding the interconnection between cinema and history, we also consider the representation of developments in contemporary social and cultural history that appeal to the material turn, and the theory of practice, because cinema enables a new perspective on history.
