- Abstract
Introduction: Social network site (SNS) addiction that means excessive and compulsive online social networking has expanded over the last years. This study explored the causes and motives use of social network site for persons with social network site addiction. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using content analysis. The 20 Iranian participants included 11 persons with SNS addiction and 11 experts of social network through purposive sampling. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the Lundman and Graneheim qualitative content analysis method. Results: The main theme of “Difficulty in acquiring life skills” was extracted with three main categories, including: ineffective and inefficient communications, defects in resiliency, and emotional vacuum. Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, life skills play an important role in tendency to SNS addiction. It is essential that policymakers adopt educational and operational programs to enhance the skills of families and new generations.
