- Abstract
The article presents a case study on how the efficacy of the Sterile Insect Release (SIR) program against low levels of codling moth may vary according to differences in orchard and landscape attributes in a heterogeneous agricultural area in Summerland, British Columbia, which is in Zone 1 of SIR. SIR effectiveness is correlated with site specific orchard and landscape measurements. The main goal of SIR was shifted from eradication of the moths to area-wide suppression in 1999. SIR is expected to operate at a subsistence level beyond 2006.
