- Abstract
The article presents information on role of safe sex in the prevention of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases among the youths in The Netherlands. A mass media campaign against the spread of AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) was launched in The Netherlands in 1989. The campaign was directed for youths and targeted inappropriate beliefs about the transmission of HIV and STDs. Attention was not only directed at condom use but at safe sex in general. It also seemed possible that focusing solely on condom use might antagonize certain groups in society and consequently reduce the penetration of the campaign. A further goal of the campaign was to enhance beliefs in personal susceptibility.
