- Abstract
The monograph "Religion and Disability" by Ramona Jelinek-Menke examines the disability and empowerment of "intellectually disabled" individuals in the social therapeutic institutions of the Protestant Church (Diakonie), the Roman Catholic Church (Caritas), and Anthroposophy in Germany. The author uses narrative interviews to analyze the linguistic (re)constructions of disabling and empowering everyday contexts in connection with religion. The analysis and interpretation of the data lead to a Grounded Theory of Dis/abling Religion, which identifies similarities and differences between the three organizations under investigation. The work has connections to gender studies and other forms of marginalization and provides added value to religious studies.
