- Abstract
Objective: to describe the perception of nursing professionals of the Emergency Care Unit about occupational violence and understand how it manifests itself in the daily life of these professionals in an emergency sector. Methods: Descriptive, qualitative research conducted with 15 nursing professionals of the Emergency Care Unit, in October 2018 in a municipality in the interior of Bahia. Data collection was performed through interviews guided by a semi-structured research script. The data were systematized from the proposed Content Analysis and discussed from the existing literature. Results: It was found that the perception of nursing professionals about occupational violence is directly related to the violent acts suffered in their daily work, especially verbal, psychological and physical violence. The main perpetrators are patients, caregivers and co-workers. It was also evidenced that the main forms of confronting occupational violence are dialogue, police support and the use of security technologies. Conclusion: The need for health education to raise awareness of the population and staff, management support and the insertion of equipment and safety personnel to reduce occupational violence was highlighted.
