- Abstract
The article discusses the rising use of e-cigarettes among teenagers in the Netherlands and its negative effects on their health. It highlights that e-cigarettes contain high doses of nicotine and other harmful chemicals, leading to adverse effects on stress levels, quality of life, and brain development in adolescents. The article also emphasizes that e-cigarettes serve as a gateway to traditional cigarette smoking, with two-thirds of adolescent e-cigarette users transitioning to smoking tobacco. The authors call for government-led initiatives, such as taxation and banning e-cigarettes, along with health education targeting adolescents to address the vaping epidemic. In the Netherlands, physicians have taken action by developing educational materials and offering guest lectures in schools to raise awareness about the risks of e-cigarettes. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of healthcare providers and the government working together to protect young people from the tobacco industry and prevent disease.
