- Title
Missionary Domesticity, Global Reform and ‘Woman's Sphere’ in Early Nineteenth-Century England.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article explores the relationship between the missionary writing and practice and anti-feminist policies of three evangelical activists in the early to mid-19th century. It notes that missionary philanthropy was a social movement, which encompassed a range of societies and organizations, including the Bible and missionary movements. For Mary-Anne Rawson, Ann Taylor Gilbert and Sarah Stickney Ellis, their understanding of themselves as primarily domestic did not mean seclusion from commitments.
