- Abstract
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using the aqueous extract of leaf of Madhuca longfolia. The particles were characterized using Uv-visible extinction spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) studies. The average size of the AgNPs worked out using TEM and PXRD data were found to be 20-22 nm. Structure of the silver in their nanoparticles is found to be face centred cubic. Effect of the nanoparticles against the growth of Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcuus aureus (S. aureus) were determined and compared with reference antibacterial substance ciprofloxacin. The AgNPs inhibit the spread of E. coli and S. aurous bacteria to different extents with their zones of inhibition 12 mm and 13.5 mm respectively.
