- Abstract
The article discusses the three alternative hypotheses on the characteristics of the financial sector in resource-dependent economies. It says that volatility hypothesis suggests macroeconomic volatility, caused by highly cyclical raw materials prices, might negatively affect financial sector development. It also discusses the demand hypothesis and the interest group theory, which examines the effect of demand for banking services and the resource sector's behavior, respectively.
