- Abstract
This article presents information on the palliative management of an elderly patient suffering from several illnesses. The patient's biggest complaint was fatigue which was often profound and functionally limiting. Fatigue is the most common chronic symptom associated with chronic progressive diseases and can be sorted into three classes: generalized weakness, easy fatigability and reduced capacity and mental fatigue resulting in impaired concentration, memory and emotional control. According to the treating physician the most valuable service offered was to listen and validate the patient's experience.
