- Abstract
The article discusses a medical case presented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention concerning a man living in New York City who was treated for inhalation anthrax after exposure to animal hides. The article focuses on the epidemiologic and environmental investigations conducted by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as well as several other local, state, and federal public health organizations. The authors explain that the man contracted the anthrax spores when he was making traditional African drums from animal hides at his workplace. Some of the man's colleagues were also treated for inhalation anthrax.
