Amphorae and Urns as Grave Markers in Idumaea, Judaea, and Nabataea.
- Authors
KLONER, AMOS
- Abstract
The article discusses the use of amphora and urns as funeral symbols in Maresha, Jerusalem and Petra. It highlights several cultural-religious illustrations of the use of funerary symbols including depictions of amphorae carved in ossuaries, paintings of amphorae in burial caves and facades of Nabataean monuments. It notes that such usage notifies the elucidation of crafts on funerary monuments and ossuaries in the first century before Christ.
