- Title
Changing Family Demographics, Multigenerational Bonds and Care for the Oldest Old.
- Authors
Gonyea, Judith G.
- Abstract
The article examines how family demographics contribute to the well-being of the oldest old. It noted that changing family structure and patterns of family formation affect the long-term care and support for the very old. Multiple parental partnerships due to shifting marriage, divorce and cohabitation patterns were reported. This trend is claimed to possibly increase family caregivers but the bond between these family members may not be as strong as historically traditional families.
