- Abstract
The article titled "Literary Chronicle and Novel. Genesis of the Novel in the Mexican Tradition (1836-1855)" analyzes the generic characteristics of the novels published in the newspapers and magazines of the Academia de Letrán in Mexico during the period from 1836 to 1855. It highlights the importance of journalism in the development of independent cultural and literary life in Mexico. José María Heredia's reflection on the novel as an emerging genre in Mexico and its influence on the writers of the time is mentioned. The article also analyzes the relationship between literary chronicles and Mexican novellas written between 1837 and 1855, highlighting the chronistic perspective adopted by the narrators and the influence of the press on literature. It emphasizes how these novellas managed to synthesize multiple historical and cultural factors, intensifying the narrative action and creating a tense atmosphere. Additionally, it is mentioned that these novellas sought to contribute to the definition and articulation of discourses, images, and values that gave meaning to the historical, cultural, human, and emotional motives of the time.
