- Abstract
The article presents a study which evaluates the efficacy of penetrative captive bolt stunning of cattle in commercial beef slaughter plants and determine the potential causes of a return to sensibility among stunned cattle. It notes that 16 days with 184 hours were observed at an average speed of 129 cattles per hour in which they were checked for signs of sensibility on the bleeding rail. Results indicate that 1.2% of the 23,736 cows and bulls had signs of returning to sensibility after hanging on the bleed rail.
