- Abstract
The article discusses clinicians' need to be aware of wider human immunodeficiency virus-(HIV) related acute and chronic complications and their treatment as of 2013. Topics covered include major opportunistic infections, immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome, HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders and cerebrovascular disease in HIV positive patients. Also noted are the importance of early HIV diagnosis and involvement of specialist clinicians in HIV treatment.
