- Abstract
A reprint is presented of the article "Alabama Politics, J. Thomas Heflin, and the Expulsion Movement of 1929," by J. Mills Thornton III in the April 1968 issue, volume 2, number 2. The article discusses early 20th century Alabama politics, including the Bourbon family's political activity. The Alabama political movement known as the expulsion movement's goal of weakening the white supremacist organization the Ku Klux Klan's (KKK's) political power, including that of the Klansman and Democratic U.S. Senator James (J.) Thomas (Tom) Heflin, is provided.
