- Abstract
Subclinical ketosis (SCK) is simply a condition marked by increased levels of circulating ketone bodies without the presence of the clinical signs of ketosis. Subclinical ketosis can cause economic losses through decreased milk production. The purpose of this study was to describe the prevalence of subclinical ketosis (SCK) in post-parturient dairy cattle. Subclinical ketosis was defined as a blood BHBA concentration of more than 1.2 mmol/L. There was highest risk of subclinical ketosis in the second week followed by first week post-partum. The maximum cases of subclinical ketosis were recorded in HF cross bred cattle, 8 to 9 year of age, 4th lactation and during winter months.
