- Authors
Steed, Jack; Steed, Richard
- Abstract
The article focuses on historical accounts of Johnson's Ranch, California from 1845 to 1849, located at the terminus of the Truckee Emigrant Trail, an overland route to California. The ranch was a settlement which provided pioneers with water, supplies, and "civilized people." The settlement was founded by William Johnson, on lands he purchased along the Bear River. Based on historical research, the authors searched the area of Johnson's Crossing and Cantonment Far West for remains from Johnson's Ranch with metal detectors and created a map based on their findings.
