- Abstract
This article focuses on methods used for the storage of vaccines and drugs. A well-designed drug and vaccine management system is required for the proper storage of drugs. The system has written policies and procedures in place including an inventory log. The system emphasizes on the need to implement a training program for employees, has appropriate storage equipment, and is prepared for emergencies. Many vaccines and other drugs need to be refrigerated. Some vaccines must be frozen. One should make sure that the refrigerator used is generally adequate for the job. Smaller, dormitory-style refrigerators should not be used as they are unable to maintain temperatures as well as larger refrigerators. Ice packs and packages of ice in the freezer can be used to maintain a colder freezer temperature.
