- Abstract
The article discusses debates concerning the bodies of men who were killed during a raid by abolitionist John Brown in Harper's Ferry, West Virginia and those who were executed thereafter. It notes that John Brown's body was taken by his widow and buried in North Elba, New York. Other bodies, including those of Brown's son Watson Brown and free blacks Shields Green and John Anthony Copeland Jr., were taken to Winchester Medical College for anatomical dissection. The author notes that others were buried in Charlestown, West Virginia.
