- Abstract
The article presents a response to a study by German ethnologist Roland Hardenberg, published in the 2008 issue of "Paideuma," in which Hardenberg had discussed the possibilities and boundaries of using comparative methods in ethnology. Hardenberg's examples of the Chinese ethnic group of the Moso people, as well as the Indian ethnic group of the Nayar people, are examined. Note is taken of various possible interpretations of the ethnic groups' social structures, with special attention paid to the gender relations of each culture.
