- Abstract
Reports on a study to estimate the age of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) logs by means of decay classes, and to assess how long it takes for downed logs to decompose by dating logs dendrochronologically by applying 5- and 8-grade decay classification systems. Methods; Division of the decomposition time of logs into two periods; Findings; Conclusion that the decomposition time of downed logs may be severely underestimated when data is compiled from previously logged forest stands.
