- Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the epidemiological link between shift work and the risk of ischemic heart disease. It notes that 14 studies on shift work and ischemic heart disease were reviewed, in which six were based on incidence data, seven on mortality data, and one used both types. It shows that the two papers reported relative risks around 2.0 while the 12 papers demonstrate relative risks ranging from 0.6-1.4, but evidences are limited for a causal relation between the two.
