- Abstract
(b) Echodoppler of cranial vessels shows focal thickening of the wall of temporal artery and a hypoechogenic halo (white arrow). As the clinical presentation was very suggestive of giant cell arteritis, an echodoppler of cranial vessels was the next exam performed and showed focal thickening of the wall of both temporal arteries, with an hypoechogenic halo (Figure 1b, white arrow), a sign with specificity between 90% and 100%,[1] which allowed to establish the diagnosis of giant cell arteritis with high confidence, avoiding vessels biopsy. Ultrasound in the diagnosis and management of giant cell arteritis.
