- Abstract
The article focuses on the deterrence theory in Somali piracy. Topics discussed include the global threats presented by the Somali piracy based on the political and social context, the Somali piracy business model and the limitations of the deterrence theory. Other topics include the factors that drives pirates to hijack ships and other crimes against seafarers, pirate activities experienced by Somali coast and antipiracy missions of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
