Smoke gets in your eyes ... and in your breath!
- Authors

- Abstract
The article presents information on the harmful effects of smoking. Carbon monoxide is currently the leading contender and there are impressive reports that portable detectors can provide a rapid and accurate breath test for tobacco smoking. A researcher reported that the abundance of 2,5-dimethyl furan in breath discriminated between smokers and non-smokers with 96% accuracy; however, it required analysis of breath by gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy, a test that is not yet widely available to clinicians.
