- Authors
Murphy, Patrick J.; Porcheddu, Fred
- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented of the works of English author Montague Rhodes James, focusing on the intersection between his academic interest in Biblical history and antiquarian ghost stories in his story "The Diary of Mr. Poynter." The authors provide a brief overview of the plot, as well as a discussion of historical allusions and elements of autobiography in James' fiction. Other topics explored include imagery in ghost tales, planting clues in fiction, and the effects of World War I on his literature.
