The article presents a philological analysis and literary criticism of lines 168-169 in the Old English Anglo-Saxon epic poem "Beowulf," addressing the meaning of the term "gifstol." It is suggested that the term, commonly translated as a "throne," actually connotes a broader reference to the greater hall. The Old English etymology and usage of gifstol is presented.
