- Abstract
Anti-oxidative properties of the methanolic extract was assessed by different in vitro experiments including total phenolic and flavonoid content, phosphomolybdenum assay (total antioxidant capacity), free radical scavenging assay included DPPH assay, β-carotene bleaching test system, ferric ion reducing power, ABTS assay, Deoxy ribose scavenging Assay, SOD scavenging assay, SO radical assay, H2O2 radical scavenging and FRAP assay. According to the results of antioxidant capacity assays, the stilt root of Rhizophora mucronata showed high antioxidant activity in test methods. The DPPH, ABTS, Deoxy ribose scavenging Assay, SOD scavenging assay, SO radical assay, H2O2 radical scavenging has shown 86.60% ±0.00713, 95.81% ±0.0068, 99.76% ±0.0097, 99.51% ±0.0084, 85% ±0.0103 following values respectively. The GC-MS analysis revealed that the stilt root extract contained many anti-oxidant compounds, reducing sugars, few steroids and fatty acids. Thus, the present study reveals that the selected plant extract would exert several beneficial effects by virtue of their antioxidant activity.
