In this article, the author focuses on role of lawyers as membership brokers. Topics discussed include changes adopted in criminal law with reference to the court case Padilla v. Kentucky; inability of criminal defense practices to make informed decisions about plea offers; and interests of social scientists in immigrant incorporation and the process by which immigrants integrate into their communities.
