- Abstract
This article provides a personal account of the author's journey as an applied exercise psychologist from 2003 to 2023. The author discusses their experiences in the field, including their transition from academia to independent practice. They highlight the role of an applied exercise psychologist in promoting adaptive engagement with physical activity to improve mental and physical health. The article also addresses the challenges faced by those aspiring to a career in applied exercise psychology, such as the lack of comprehensive resources and evidence for one-on-one therapy. Despite these challenges, the author expresses enthusiasm for the field and emphasizes the importance of psychological support in exercise and weight management programs. They call for action in the field, including the need for practice-based evidence and increased awareness.
