- Abstract
The reform that gave way to a new form of election of senators in the USA was a long and arduous process. Initiated by popular demands for a constitutional reform that did not see the light until almost a century later with the ratification of the XVII Amendment. This inquiry analyses the difficulties in reforming the system of election of senators, as well as the consequences for the American political system. Moreover, we believe that in spite of the time-lapse, parallelisms can be drawn between the process described as senate reform in the US, and the current debate on how to reform the senate in Spain.
