- Abstract
The article presents information on research notes prepared by the Graduate School of Business, Columbia University. Ivar Berg and Marcia Freedman are studying the role of management in both the organization of the work process and in the disposition of resources. In a succeeding phase of this research, the reactions and assessments of employees will be compared to the rationale, procedures and performance of managers, whose behavior patterns are rarely considered in traditional studies of worker "morale." Among the issues to be investigated is widespread employer concern with "participative management." Researcher Noel Tichy is developing an empirically derived categorization scheme of change agents, including those engaged in organizational and societal change. The focus is on the multiplicity of strategies and assumptions by which these agents operate. The study will attempt to systematize the intuitive and often implicit knowledge of change agents in order to contribute to refining and improving the knowledge of planned social change.
