Considering that innovation has played a prominent role in the search for competitiveness, the Local Innovation Agents (ALI) program, the result of a partnership between SEBRAE and CNPq, aims to promote proactive, free and personalized orientation to small companies. In this sense, the present study had as aim to evaluate if the actions proposed by the ALI program contributed to the improvement of the MPE's in terms of the potential to generate competitive advantage. For this, this exploratory case study carried out documentary research and semistructured interviews with representatives of MPE's of accounting, being these analyzed from the VRIO model. The results revealed the competitive implications of each proposal suggested and implemented, highlighting that of the 12 actions analyzed, six of them presented the potential to generate competitive advantage, being one sustainable and five temporaries. Of the remainder, one share has the potential for competitive parity, as it is valuable and used by the company, and five have a competitive disadvantage, as they are not valuable, rare and difficult to imitate. In general, the present study offered a new look at the issue of innovation and the ALI program, analyzing the actions in terms of competitiveness.
