- Abstract
The article introduces research papers discussing the sex offender problem, published in the October 1985 issue of the journal "Behavioral Sciences & the Law." The incidence of sex offenses has increased in the United States. Though many states adopted sexual psychopath statutes which define male sex offenders as a "different" category of criminals who were presumably "treatable," most such statutes have now been rescinded. An article in this issue reviews how the criminal justice system has distinguished sex offenders from other criminals. Some other articles are devoted to various aspects of the evaluation and treatment of male sex offenders.
