- Abstract
The article explores the work of Urdu poet Khvājah Mīr Dard, focusing on his status as a Sufi thinker and examining his work in light of his religious beliefs. The literary and musical cultures in Delhi, India during the 18th century are examined and Dard's philosophies regarding the role of literature, religious reform, and cultural change are discussed. The expansion of the Naqshbandi spiritual order into India, Dard's influence as a teacher, and his self-identification as a messenger from God are also explored.
