- Abstract
In this work, a simultaneous experimental study of the Doppler Effect associated with a sound source in circular motion and on its sound image reflected on a flat wall, is carried out. The source that generates the sound signal is a smartphone, which describes a circular movement in front of a flat wall. A microphone connected to a PC records the sound from the first source and its reflected image. With this simple experimental arrangement, it is possible to observe the Doppler effect both in the primary source and in its image. The dynamics of the problem can be addressed using the imaging method, widely used to solve electrostatics problems. This experiment can be useful in university laboratory courses to visualize both the Doppler effect and to explore the method of images in the case of sound. Very inexpensive elements are used and can be performed both in regular physics laboratoriesor at home. This contribution is in line with the new needs of the education system in this situation of a global pandemic.
