- Abstract
In the era of digital culture (Santaella, 2003), the new multiliteracies necessary to produce meanings have become more demanding, because they change the relationship of consumption, reception, and production of languages and discourses. This article aims to analyze the fake news (Bucci, 2019; Frias Filho, 2018; Santaella, 2018) produced during the pandemic period caused by COVID-19 in Brazil. For that, the linguistic and imagery strategies of appeal and persuasion are evaluated, as well as the digital treatment of fakes that reflect a transmedia narrative (Jenkins, 2009), which presupposes the need for critical literacies capable of interconnecting people, media objects and meaning-building strategies (Lemke, 2010). Thus, it was carried out the selection of five (5) fake news that circulated on different social networks with different configurations and promoted the misinformation related to the number of deaths by COVID-19. After that, it was made a cutting from them for analysis, the fake news based on the theme of "empty coffins" that used static images (Rojo and Moura, 2019; Santaella and Nöth, 1998) accompanied or not by verbal text and verified in checking agencies. At the end of this research, we learn that if there is freedom to access a lot of information and to interact through the networks with several people, the reading practices need to understand the multisemiosis present in the texts that circulate on the networks. Also, we could comprehend the relationships established in the means of transmission and production of texts in digital contexts.
