- Abstract
The article discusses a program called "Return 'Em Right" that combines science with business principles to promote lasting ocean resource conservation. Led by the NOAA Restoration Center, in collaboration with Florida Sea Grant and the Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission, the program focuses on sustainable catch and release practices among recreational fishers in the Gulf of Mexico. It provides practical information to anglers through traditional science, outreach, and communications, as well as online learning and the distribution of free fish-descending devices. The program's success is attributed to its neutral, relatable, personal, and credible approach, and efforts are being made to maintain engagement with anglers and expand the program to other regions.
