Die Einstellung der deutschen Gottesdienste in der Diözese Kattowitz im Sommer 1939.
- Authors
Schmerbauch, Maik
- Abstract
The article focuses on the church services of German Catholic churches in the Katowice diocese in Upper Silesia (modern day Poland) during the period of time between World War I and World War II. Several topics are discussed, including that Germany lost its power over the region of Upper Silesia to Poland after World War I, and how there was a large migration of German Catholics out of Upper Silesia/Poland in 1922, which caused a problem for the remaining German minority in Katowice because Polish nationalists demanded that the number of German church services be reduced. Also mentioned is that the Polish bishop Stanisław Adamski tried to preserve the German church services and protect the German minority until political tensions between Germany and Poland escalated in 1938.
