- Abstract
Especially in the context of national projects in industrialized countries, it has been demonstrated that the availability of integrated information systems increases the efficiency of health systems and therefore has a favorable impact on the improvement of health care services for the citizens. This paper presents an Expert System to support the development of interoperability solutions in the healthcare area. The developed tool: an LSMS (Laboratory System Mapping Software) use the capability of expert systems to manage knowledge related to a specific field and the inference processes which allows reproducing the response that a domain expert would provide to a specific problem. Specifically, the developed LSMS offers support to health information systems analysts in the mapping process of Entity Relationship models to information models, which are represented using the most used international standard for interoperability in healthcare: the HL7 standard. The system supports the development of software interfaces for the usage case of laboratory orders as defined by the HL7 organization in Colombia. In this work, in addition to the development process of the system, an evaluation of the quality of mappings obtained from the LSMS, based on completeness and validity metrics, is presented. As a result of the evaluation, we conclude that the mapping generated by the tool has a better semantic quality, compared to that of a manually performed mapping.
