- Abstract
The article discusses the currently known facts about the neurobiology of autism and if the valuable resource of family time should be invested in these known studies. A number of imaging studies in the recent past have reported an increase in total brain volume early in childhood in autism in a sufficient number of subjects to establish this as a part of the neurobiology of autism. Some of these have reported an increase in total gray and white matter volumes, while others have reported an increase in total white matter volume but not gray matter volume, and others have not reported separate measurements of these compartments.
